John Curdie was a painter from Kilmarnock. He ran a business
selling artists' materials in the town which was on one occassion,
visited by the leading Scottish landscape painter Horation
McCulloch. McCulloch was impressed by some of Curdie's paintings on
display in the shop and the two became friends. On further visits
McCulloch made to the region the pair met up and painted together
and Curdie learned much from his accomplished friend.
