Ayrshire Woodland Scene
Painter James Taylor Brown was born in Kilmarnock in 1868,
moving with his family to Stewarton in 1870. As an adult, Taylor
Brown opened up his own shop on Stewarton's Main St, selling
newspapers and confectionery with a small artist' studio at the
back of the shop for his artistic pursuits.
Taylor Brown aptitude for painting landscapes brought him a
moderate measure of renown, and he exhibited at the Royal
Scottish Academy, the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, and the
Society of Scottish Artists in Edinburgh, as well as some
exhibitions in England.
