This steel cup hilt rapier has elements of its hilt pierced with foliage patterns to create a fine example of a weapon that merges function and design. Above its cup, the hilt has two quillons set at a right angle to its grip, with a third reaching upwards to the pommel to create a handguard. Together with the cup, this would have provided its user with amplified protection from an opponent's sword. To strengthen and lighten the blade, it has 3 fullers running down its centre. One side is inscribed with 'ANCISCUS' and the other 'TOLEDO' with stars etched beside these marks.
