The Burgonet helmets design is complete with inherent benefits - offering better peripheral vision and air supply to the wearer without sacrificing protection in critical areas of the head and neck. This meant that the Burgonet served at every level of Renaissance military society, from infantrymen to kings, and proved especially popular for cavalry use. The more protective closed Burgonet continued to serve heavy cavalry through the mid to late 16th century.
