Ministry of Labour and National Service Essential Work (General Provisions) Order made out in the name of M Kristiansen. The order grants permission for the employer of M Kristiansen at Powfoot, to terminate her employment as shorthand typist with effect of 15 September 1945.   Arnljor Kristiansen was a merchant seaman who joined the Norwegian Army at Dumfries in 1940 at the age of 37. In June 1941 he married Mary ("Nellie") Farquhar of Galloway Street, Dumfries at a ceremony held in Norway House at Burns Statue. When the war was over the couple settled in Bergen, where Nellie was an active member of the town's Burns Club.
