Memorial Plaque - Sleeve and Envelope

Printed envelope, dated 1921 and addressed to the mother of a lost soldier. Inside is his memorial plaque and a letter from King George V.   Alexander McLauchlan died on 2 September 1918 at Messians Bridge in France serving with the 1st/5th KOSB. He was 26. After the war his medals were sent to his mother, Mrs Clara Hellen McLauchlan who lived at Roselyn Villa, Noblehill, Dumfries, with this memorial plaque. His name is spelled incorrectly.   Soon after the war ended, the British government sent individually named memorial plaques to the next of kin - the closest living relative - of every serviceman and woman who had lost their life.
