Memorial Plaque - Sleeve and Envelope
Printed envelope, dated 1921 and addressed to the mother of a
lost soldier. Inside is his memorial plaque and a letter from King
George V.
Alexander McLauchlan died on 2 September 1918 at Messians
Bridge in France serving with the 1st/5th KOSB. He was 26.
After the war his medals were sent to his mother, Mrs Clara
Hellen McLauchlan who lived at Roselyn Villa, Noblehill, Dumfries,
with this memorial plaque. His name is spelled incorrectly.
Soon after the war ended, the British government sent
individually named memorial plaques to the next of kin - the
closest living relative - of every serviceman and woman who had
lost their life.
