Account of William Reid, blacksmith, to the Town Council of Dumfries

"for shafting of 116 scythes...all which were used in the late troubles"   War scythes, pikes and halberds were made in 1715 as Dumfries prepared to face an attack by the Jacobite army.  The town was so well defended that the rebels turned back.
