The Victorian Museum

Many of the museums of south west Scotland, like others throughout the UK, were founded around collections of objects and information put together by Victorian collectors. These antiquarians were often professional gentlemen such as Ministers or Managers with the time and money to carry out their hobby. They created vast and important collections ranging from books and manuscripts to rocks, fossils, and archaeology - in fact most subjects still covered in museums today.
