Stone Ball, Kilmaurs

Stone balls like this one appear in the Neolithic period.  Various types have been recognised and their distribution is almost entirely confined to Scotland.  This one was found at Jock's Thorn farm near Kilmaurs (East Ayrshire) and is possibly the only ornamemtal stone ball which has been found in Ayrshire.  The use of these balls is unknown.
