Standing Stones at Machrie Moor
The landscape around Machrie Moor on the Isle of Arran has
numerous prehistoric monuments from the Bronze Age and the
Neolithic period. These include stone circles, standing stones and
hut circles. The main focus of the area is on the large stone
circles, one of which is named Fingal's Cauldron Seat after the
legendary giant. Excavations have revealed that there were timber
circles, in use for hundreds of years, in place before the stone
monuments were raised.
