Barrie had a particularly warm relationship with his publisher,
as it was Sir William Robertson Nichol of Hodder and Stoughton who
had discovered him and nurtured his talent. Nichol had
spotted the young Scottish journalist just arrived in London and
persuaded him to write for the "British Weekly" as "Gavin
Ogilvie". The company published his first book, "Auld Licht
Idylls" in 1888.
