Stiletto

This dagger is not a military weapon.  It would have been carried by civilians as costume jewellery but would also have served for personal defence. The stiletto is so named as a diminutive for 'stilo', meaning dagger. The blade of the stiletto is characterised by a square, or more commonly, triangular cross-section, coming to a sharp point. It is used as a thrusting or stabbing implement, rather than for cutting.
