Skull Piece from Samurai Helmet
This fluted skull piece has a skip decorated with etched dragons. The helmet would have originally been completed with the addition of segmented and flared neck protection. The small sheath on the front would have held a large metal crest and there may also have been a face mask. As it is, without any of the elaborate decoration it resembles head protection not too far removed from that worn by soldiers and workmen in the 20th/21st century.
