Hungarian Half Armour
Armour of blued steel consisting of an open-faced helmet (zischagge) with a moveable nose-guard, and a cuirass with short removable thigh defences, shoulder guards and gauntlets.
This type of armour was worn by cavalry officers on the Hungarian frontier during the Turkish wars of the 17th century. The helmet is, in fact, based on a Turkish model. The absence of leg armour is to reduce the weight and thus allow the horse to move more swiftly.
