Dean Castle Courtyard Before Restoration

This picture, taken from inside the courtyard shows the condition of the buildings of Dean Castle (Kilmarnock) prior to Lord Howard de Waldens restoration of the castle.  It had been left gutted by fire in 1735 and had remained a ruin ever since.
