Looped Spearhead, Spearford

Spearford Bridge, Crossmichael
From the collection of Dr Thomas Grierson, this looped spearhead found near Spearford Bridge, Crossmichael was found in 1876. This spearhead has two loops, one on either side of the base and a prominent oval fluted section. With a hollow oval shaft, the spear tapers to the tip becoming diamond shaped along the blade section. It is believed to date from the Middle Bronze Age, and is slightly damaged with one loop broken and the tip of the blade missing.
