Station Master's hat

Station Master's hat, from the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company.   The First World War (1914 - 1918) caused the bankruptcy of many small railway companies. The Londonm Midland and Scottish Railway formed in 1923 when The Glasgow and South Western Railway, The Caledonian Railway, The Highland Railway and the Midland Railway joined together. It became one of four large British railway companies.   After the Second World War (1939 - 1945) these four large companies, London, Midland and Scottish Railway, London and North Eastern Railway, Great Western Railway and the Southern Railway were nationalised to form British Railways. In 1997 rail services were returned to private ownership.
