"Stirling" Pint, Burgh of Dumfries, 1622

In 1618 an Act of Parliament established a national value for a pint and gave the standard to the Royal Burgh of Stirling for safe keeping.  Several copies of the pint were made at the time, primarily for burghs that had been entrusted with other standard weights and measures.  In 1622 a second series of 34 copies was made, and this example was presented to the Royal Burgh of Dumfries.   Stirling pint, standard pint capacity measure, 1622. This measure holds 3 Imperial pints. Two applied shields are on the side, a lion rampant motif, and the other a beast above an "S". This measure is countermarked for issue by Stirling from the second series of pint measures.
