Sikes Hydrometer boxed set, c1900
Hydrometer set used to determine the specific gravity or "heaviness" of a liquid. Set number "2769". Comprises glass cylinder, weighted bulb with scale, magnifying glass, thermometer and a set of 9 small brass loop weights marked from 10 to 90. Each has its own compartment within a wooden box lined with silk and velvet. A small rectangular weight also sits on one of the 10 pegs. There are no verification stamps on the weights. 'Sike's Hydrometer pocket sized book of tables' should accompany the set, but is missing from this example.
