Spiers Glove Knitting Machine, J & D McGeorge Ltd., Dumfries
This steam powered machine produced gloves in the form of a long tube. Originally worked by hand, these machines were rebuilt after World War II and later run by individual electric motors.
Fingers for the gloves were knitted on a table top machine, often by outworkers in their homes.
