Chap Book

The ‘Chap Book’ is a Scottish term for a form of popular street literature which arose in the early days of printing. One large sheet was printed on two sides and folded several times. Later, collectors bound these sheets in order to form small books. Chap Books were one of the ways in which the poetry of Robert Burns reached the poorer members of the community. Chap Books frequently dealt with sensation and scandal. This Chap Book of 1735 features the story of sword wielding Ann Bonny, Lady Pirate!
