Vases
Decorative vases made from Sanquhar clay. Part
of a set. The text of a letter explains it's origins:
"This set of antique ornaments, - the workmanship of Messrs
Loudon & Russell of Newmains, - is made from clay dug out of
the Sanquhar Moor.
The clay was first recovered by may Father, - William Wilson,
Bookseller, Sanquhar, - who arranged for these ornaments to be made
along with a few vases, flower pots, teapots (in all 25 articles)
and submitted them to the Town Council, of which he is a member, in
order to show the quality of the clay.
These ornaments with the vases &c. are the first articles
which have been made from the clay.
Tom Wilson, Sanquhar, 1st September, 1884"
