Horn Spoons

As well as knife handles horn was used to make spoons. These are made from cowhorn which was heated and pressed in moulds. People who were better off more commonly used ones made from pewter which carried a then unknown risk of lead poisoning.  These were made in Kilmaurs which was an important centre for the manufacture of such items from 1717 to 1858.
