Hazelnuts, Lochlea Crannog

One feature that regularly litters the site of crannogs are mounds of food scraps such as bones and hazelnut shells such as these. Not only can these mounds tell us what the people who lived there were eating but their size can also give us clues as to how long the crannog was inhabited for.
