Paintings and Etchings by D. Y. Cameron
Sir D. Y. Cameron was born in Glasgow and studied both at
Glasgow School of Art and in Edinburgh. Although he lived in London
for periods throughout his life and travelled regularly in Europe
and beyond, Scotland remained his home and he and his wife settled
near Stirling. He began producing etchings in his early twenties
and it was with these that he first established himself as an
artist, his prints becoming very collectible within his lifetime.
He also painted consistently throughout his career, at first a
variety of subjects including portraits and architecture but
focusing increasingly on the Scottish landscape in the later years
of his career. He was knighted in 1924 in recognition of his
contribution to British art and art institutions. There are several
of Cameron's landscape paintings in the collections of the
south-west of Scotland as well as a number of his
etchings.
