"The Oldest House in Wigtownshire"

A remarkable photograph showing the type of rural poverty which could still be found in Wigtownshire in the early years of the 20th century.  The cottage, buttressed with piles of stones, has a rough-thatched roof but no sign of a chimney.  The pig in the yard may live in the lean-to at the corner of the cottage.   This building, a lone survivor of a type once more common in the south west, stood near Glenstockadale, Leswalt.
