'The Big Tree', Kirkwall, Orkney

In the centre of Kirkwall town, a thriving 200-year-old sycamore tree grows surrounded by pavement. 'The Big Tree', as it is nicknamed by locals, was planted around 1815 by a landowner who made his wealth during the Napoleonic wars.
