Bishop's Palace, Orkney

The Bishop's Palace was built around the 12th century and sits adjacent to St Magnus Cathedral. The building was originally the home of the cathedral's first bishop, Willliam the Old. The palace had fallen into ruin in 1320, but restoration work began under Bishop Robert Reid in the 16th century. Following a storied history where the palace saw ownership by the Stewarts, and then again by the Church, the palace was seized by the Stewarts once more. The palace is now in ruins.
