Medieval long sword

While its title would suggest that a long sword is so named for the length of its blade, a long sword is characterised by its long grip. This longer grip accommodates two hands, allowing for a wide and powerful swing that could easily overpower opponents on the battlefield. Long swords emerged during the Medieval period as a weapon for armoured cavalry and infantrymen.   This long sword has a straight, double-edged blade, which bears an Arabic inscription on its ricasso. The simple, cruciform hilt has an unadrorned crossguard and grip, and the large pommel, which would have served as a counter-weight to the heavy blade, has a simple circular design in its centre.
