The last throes of the heavy fighting sword were the two-hand swords of Germany, the Zweilhander of mammoth proportions with heavy pommel, elongated grip and a simple cross-guard incorporating loops and bars for extra protection.
The inscription on the blade reads as;
SIXTVS V PONT MAX ANNO IIII
There is also etched with an indecipherable coat of arms.
As the hilt is missing from this blade we are unable to fully determine the exact family this sword belonged to.
