Glen-Trool Lodge

Built by the ninth Earl of Galloway, the lodge, also known as Eschoncan Lodge, was described in 1876 as “the Earl of Galloway’s favourite shooting lodge.” During the First World War fevered tales of hectic German subversive activity around Glentrool with seaplanes making furtive use of the loch led to a detachment of soldiers being stationed at the lodge to scour the area. They succeeded in discovering a hoard of Bronze Age implements but no threats to national security. In the 1960’s a football pools company bought the lodge to provide their coupon checkers with stress-relieving holidays.
