Sorbie Tower
This late 16th century tower house, the ancestral home of the Hannays of Sorbie and Kirkdale, is now embowered in conifer woodland and has been relieved of its blanket of ivy. Close by is an artifical mound or motte on which stood a wooden castle, forerunner of its stone neighbour. An exception to the locally fractious Hannays was Patrick, university graduate, poet at the London court of King James VI and I, and, improbably, General of Artillery to King Frederick of Bohemia, son-in-law of James, during the Thirty Years War in Germany.
