Matisse comes to Stranraer Museum

The French painter, sculptor and designer, Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was one of the 20th century's most influential artists. His vibrant works are celebrated for their extraordinary richness and luminosity of colour. The new exhibition at Stranraer Museum, Matisse: Drawing with Scissors, features 35 lithographic prints of the famous cut-outs. They were produced in the last four years of his life, when the artist was confined to his bed.

Health, Wealth & Hatpins!

Dumfries Museum's 2010 Foyer Exhibition. This small exhibition showcases three interesting recent acquisitions: Dr William Fraser?s apothecary scales, used to measure medicines and other compounds; a hoard of 13th and 14th century silver coins, found during 2007 and 2008 on the outskirts of Dumfries; and hat pins and cow feet stands,used by a farming family at Riddingwood Farm, Kirkmahoe.
