The Siller Gun, Kirkcudbright

This is a model firearm given to the town of Kirkcudbright by James VI in 1587 to be used as the prize for winning a shooting competition.  The King's aim was to improve the military capability of the Town's inhabitants.  The initials stand for Thomas MacLellan, who was provost in 1587.   A silver model of a haquebutt, with the initials 'T.Mc.' and date '1587' incised on it, together with a chain bearing a shield with upside down chevrons.
