Macehead, Sanquhar

The hole through this macehead was drilled from both sides using a hand drill.  Sometimes this produces an 'hourglass' effect. A mace head is a polished spherical or solid oval stone with a cylindrical hollow right through for mounting the stone on a stick or shaft. This particular object was found near Southmains, Sanquhar.
