‘Food vessel’ urn, Kirkmaiden

Cairngaan, Kirkmaiden, Wigtownshire
Complete pot of 'food vessel' type found in a stone-lined grave or cist.  It may have held food or drink.  The body of the pot is decorated with a design of impressed triangles and horizontal bands.  This type of 'food vessel' is also found in Ireland and indicates cultural and possibly trading contacts with south-west Scotland.
