Fragments of A ware pottery

African Red Slipware was made near Carthage in Tunisia.  It is a rare import in Britain and is only known from seven other sites including Tintagel, Cornwall and Dinas Powys, Glamorgan.  Nine A ware sherds, mainly from bowls, were discovered duringthe Whithorn excavations.  Imported pottery like this demonstrates the extent of Whithorn's trading contacts.   Two rim sherds and two body sherds of African Red Slipware, also known as A ware.
