Essays on Burns and Scott by Thomas Carlyle

Carlyle's "Essays on Burns" was the first work he completed after moving to Craigenputtock, near Dunscore.  His diary records "Finished a paper on Burns, September 16th 1828, at this Devil's Den, Craigenputtock."  It was first published in the "Edinburgh Review", and became one of the journal's best known articles.
