John Walker & Sons Ltd. Centenary Festival Programme
This programme was for the Centenary Festival of John Walker & Sons, Limited which was held in the Art Galleries (Dick Institute) in Kilmarnock in 1920. Presiding over events was Sir Alexander Walker MBE.
A statement inside reads: "The Shareholders of JOHN WALKER & SONS, LTD., at the Annual Meeting of the Company, accepted the reccommendation of the Directors that a Special Bonus be paid to every employee - from the humblest worker upwards - in celebration of the Firm's Centenary.
They are fully concious of how much they owe to the employees in the attainment of that unbroken success which has marked the history of the Company, and especially are they impressed by the long and faithful service of a large proportion of the present staff.
While progress of the Firm has been steady and continuous even in times which gave cause for anxiety, the Centenary year found our Firm confronted with possibilities of severe restriction of their trade at home and abroad. Happily these have not materialised.
This opportunity is taken of not only asking the employees to celebrate with the Directors and Shareholders the Centenary of the Firm, but also to present each one with a share of the Special Bonus grant from the reserves of the Company - according to length of service.
This is given in the hope that it will secure the employees of long service against possible risks in the future, and the Directors therefore earnestly trust that the sum now allocated will be carefully conserved against such contingencies.
With the Firm's Good Wishes for the future.
