Morion (1)
Morion helmet which has been etched all over with a scroll-work pattern on a gilt background. Morion are usually recognised by the high comb on the top and the upwards curving brim. They are usually associated in most peoples minds as the helmets worn in illustrations by the Spanish conquisadores but were worn throughout Europe, this one is Italian. The Rosette headed rivets which circle the base of the skull were originally intended to secure the lining.
