Arming Cap

This is a replica of an 'arming cap', a cap which was worn underneath a helmet to both secure the helmet and to provide padding.  This was owned by the 8th Lord Howard de Walden and although it is not as heavily padded as earlier types, knowing the 8th Lord's attention to detail, we can assume that is an authentic replica and was probably worn underneath his Gothic Armour designed by the armourer Joubert which was made in a 15th century style.  The wooden 'beads' hold ensure that the helmet would have been securely held in place.
