Pliosaurus vertebra
This is a vertebra from the backbone of a pliosaurus, a large marine reptile which lived in the Jurassic Period. Although none of the rocks found naturally in south west Scotland contain dinosaur fossils, there are several important collecting localities in the UK, such as Skye, the Yorkshire coast around Whitby, and the Isle of Wight.
