Burns Supper, Bergen

This is a photograph from the Burns Club Supper in Bergen, Norway. This part of the proceedings is "Piping in the Haggis". Guests normally stand to welcome Haggis being delivered to the table by a procession consisting of the chef, the piper and the person who will address the Haggis.   Pictured on the far left of the photograph is Mrs Nellie Kristiansen, Secretary of Bergen Burns Club. Nellie was the wife of Arnlijor Kristiansen, a merchant seaman who joined the Norwegian Army at Dumfries in 1940. Arnlijor married Nellie in June 1941, at a ceremony held in Norway House at Burns Statue, and when the war was over the couple settled in Bergen.
