Inscription from the Back of the Painting "The Kilmarnock Cobbler, by Himself" by John Kelso Hunter (1)

The text gives details about the artist's life emphasising in particular his connections with the Poet Robert Burns. The Hunter and Burns family were friends and although the poet died before Hunter was born, he seems to have felt close ties to him. The author of the text is unknown although it may have been James McKie. It states that the painting was "Presented by Harry Johnson Hunter, son of JKH" in July 1881.
