Snuff mull
This wooden snuff mull has been engraved on the base with a
skinners knife and the initals "W.M". The skinners and glovers were
the tradesmen of Dumfries who worked with leather. This was the
smallest of the Incorporated Trades and had only 23 members in
1791.
The property of the Seven Trades was auctioned on 8th April 1854
and became separated. Over the past 100 years these objects have
been acquired by Dumfries Museum. This snuff mull was donated
to the museum in 1960.
