An extract from “The Museum of Natural History: being a popular account of the Structure, Habits and Classification of the various departments of the Animal Kingdom”, by Sir John Richardson.

Sir John Richardson wrote several books, including Fauna Boreali-Americana (1829-37), Icones Piscium (1843), the second edition of Yarrell’s History of British Fishes (1860) and The Polar Regions (1861).  He also compiled detailed accounts of the geology, botany and marine life he saw on his voyages.
