Handbell used by the Burgh Officer, Sanquhar

This is still used each year on the eve of the Riding of the Marches.  The Burgh Officer, accompanied by the Burgh Piper, proceeds through the town and at certain points, the first being at the top of the Tolbooth stairs, reads the traditional Proclamation of the Riding.
