Insurance Plaque
As open flames were the main light sources in homes, the risk of
fire in an overcrowded burgh such as Dumfries was great. Insurance
companies often ran their own fire brigades and used fire marks to
identify which buildings they protected. This wooden panel with
metal plaque is from the phoneix insuance company.
