Calico Printing Block (3)

Dye was applied to material using wooden printing blocks carved with the intricate patterns. The material was laid out flat on a table and the block to which dye had been applied, pressed down onto it. Only one colour could be applied at a time.   The alternative view shows the reverse of this printing block with recessed hand grips.
