Sugar tongs, fiddle pattern

Maker’s mark: “JORAILY” Other marks: castle, thistle, tree, “D” Inscribed “Formed of coins found in the Parish of Penningham in the end of September, 1835, some of which were as old as the reign of Edward the Second.”   These tongs, although having the marks used by Adam Burgess, also bear the name “JORAILY”.  The piece is particularly interesting as it is made from a mediaeval coin hoard found in Penningham parish in September 1835.
